Well, I recently came to the end of the church year. Yes I know, it's a bit hard to understand why we go from the 1st Oct - 31st Sept, but hey ho that's the way it is.
I've never been able to understand why the tax year runs from April to April instead of January to December so we are not alone at Elim.
As I look back over the last year, I reflect on just how many people I personally know have been diagnosed with cancer. They have gone on to have quite intrusive treatments and have suffered great physical pain as well as the psychological impact on them and their families and friends.
I have been truly humbled by the way they have dealt with their suffering. I have observed an extraordinary amount of faith and hope, even when it appeared that there was none.
Just last year, we had a member of our fellowship with this condition and obviously we were all praying for him, as you would expect. There were times when it seemed like the Lord may have other plans for him, than to be returned to us and carry out service to Him. This man received full healing and is still in good health today, Praise the Lord.
Those of us in so called leadership positions in the church are no more special than anyone else, I've always known this and believed this. We are just as susceptible to illness and attack as anyone else, the fact we lead churches or worship in churches makes no difference.
Despite knowing this, I was personally shocked when someone very dear to my heart, a Christian brother from another church, was diagnosed with a form of cancer.
It brought it home to me that if he could get cancer, anyone could!
Yes I know that I am stating the obvious, but I am only human too and I was deeply effected by the news.
When I was first starting out in this area in my ministry, he reached out to me and was encouraging as well as offering practical help.
I have faith and hope that the Lord will heal these people as He healed our church member last year.
I have been encouraged by the way these people have coped with their cancers this year and I know that they also have faith and trust in the Lord.
Blessings
Pastor Adrian.
